Parkinson’s disease is one of the most crippling illnesses to afflict elderly people. The nerve disorder, which usually arises in men between the ages of 55 to 60, afflicts 20,000 people in Sweden and 500,000 in both Europe and the USA.
With the worldwide figure expected to increase by around 150,000 annually, the treatment market is estimated at around SEK 10.3 billion (USD 1 billion).

Giving hope to
Parkinson’s disease sufferers

NeoPharma was founded in Sweden in 1994 with the aim of commercializing its revolutionary new medicine for the disease. The drug is unique in that it is administered directly to the small intestine via a portable dosing pump and in tests, has proved highly effective in reducing the symptoms of the disease.

Revolutionising the treatment
“We believe our product will revolutionise the treatment of advanced Parkinson disease,” says NeoPharma Marketing Director Stefan Åsberg.
“The revolutionary administration system excels by allowing the patient to absorb the medicine directly into the blood at a more precisely controlled rate. Other benefits with this system of medication is its ability to offer a high patient compliance.

Suiting patients individual needs
The company has also recently created an electronic dosing unit which adjusts levels of medicine to suit patients individual needs.
“Our achievements are leading us to our goal which is to become a small pharmaceutical company rather than simply one concerned with drug delivery. To finance this, we plan a further division of ownership and to list on the stock market,” explains Åsberg.
The company’s slogan is ‘Ready To Deliver’ and with NeoPharma’s broad base of skills, from dosage design to pharmaceutical production, the com-pany looks more than ready to deliver the biotech industry more break-throughs.
