BioThema exploits firefly enzyme
for bright analyses

Dr. Arne Lundin, who is a well-established scientist in the bioluminescent society, says that the company has focused on analytical applications of the luminescent firefly luciferase reaction in molecular biology, biomedicine, rapid microbiology and hygiene monitoring. The method is utilized for measuring luciferase in reporter gene studies and for measuring ATP in a wide range of bioanalyses. The central role of ATP as the energy currency in all living cells makes it possible to assay many different enzymes and metabolites, to detect single bacterial cells, to monitor apoptosis and to perform hygiene control.
BioThema develops and produces recombinant luciferase reagents, standards, extractants etc. combining these reagents to optimised kits for various applications.
Customers include research institutes such as the Karolinska Institute and the Mayo Foundation, pharmaceutical companies as Pharmacia, Astra Zeneca and various food industries.
BioThema is rapidly expanding and has recently moved into a new clean-room production facility. BioThema is now looking for distributors and is also interested in OEM production of ATP kits for niche markets.
