Introduction
of a Life Saver
One of
the many interesting, aggressive and innovative companies in the Biotech
Valley is BioPhausia in Uppsala. Their main product, RescueFlow®
is introduced in Europe and approved in nine countries already.
RescueFlow® was originally developed as
an answer to military demand for a low volume effective solution for
shock treatment. It is a product, within our core competence areas.
After administration of RescueFlow® the circulating blood volume
increases rapidly with up to one litre and stays elevated for several
hours, even though it is given in a small volume (250 millilitres),
says Lars-Olof Lindbom, Director of Research and Development at BioPhausia.
RescueFlow®
is a global product
Though it was developed on request from the military sector, it has
been shown to be useful in prehospital settings as well as Emergency
Care and is further developed for use during surgical procedures.
RescueFlow® is a global product, registered in nine countries
and the work is now focused on finalising the European Distributor
Network in order to secure a successful introduction of Specialty
products into Europe. Besides the rapid and sustained effect, RescueFlow®
improves the microvascular perfusion and microcirculation, which is
as important as the volume effect in critically ill patients.
We are focusing directly on the specialists
working with trauma patients on a daily basis. We have received a
lot of positive responses from users in the market and it is interesting
to see the development says Claes Thulin, CEO at BioPhausia.
The effect is unbelievable is what many users say
when they use it for the first time. RescueFlow® keeps the
patient stabilized after the initial resuscitation and we follow up
with the Standard of Care (SOC) as Dr Mayer a Trauma surgeon
at one of the major Trauma Centers in Germany, says.
Innovative
pharmaceuticals
BioPhausia is a pharmaceutical company committed to research within
microcirculation, biopolymers and cellular biology. By merging two
or more of these fields they are able to develop new and interesting
innovative pharmaceuticals. RescueFlow®, for instance, has its
place in the fields of biopolymers and microcirculation. Their business
idea is to in-license and develop projects in phase two or three,
and to effectively market Specialty products on the European Market.
Marketing and merchandising of specialised products targeting hospital
specialists, is handled by the fully-owned company Medisan Pharmaceuticals
AB.
Our ambition is to become an interesting partner
both for hospital specialists and pharmaceutical companies, entering
the European market-place. It implies a constant search for new projects
and speciality products. Our strategy is to contribute with our level
of competence in the various phases of development as well as with
the European Distribution Network. We are now established to the extent
that we are contacted regarding projects says Claes Thulin.
Besides RescueFlow® we have three develop-ment projects in the
areas of Oncology, Transplantation/ Inflammatory oedema and Osteo-arthrosis.
