Karolinska Innovations AB
Karolinska Innovations AB (KIAB) manages and commercializes the intellectual
property of Karolinska Institutet's researchers and entrepreneurs.
Karolinska Innovations AB acts as a catalyst for their commercial
development into innovative new products and therapies for the consumer
market.
KIAB reviews approximately 100 new inventions every year. Selected
inventions are thereafter commercialized either by starting up companies
to develop the intellectual property, or by out-licensing to pharmaceutical/biotech
companies.
During the last year, KIAB has formed 10 new biotech companies. Among
these are companies covering the fields of gene therapy, cancer and
gene chip technology. KIAB helps the inventor in the process from
patenting the scientific discovery to writing a business plan and
finding potential investors.
Karolinska Innovations AB's current portfolio consists of over 50
projects spanning the fields of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, CNS
diseases, gene therapy, genomics, inflammation, as well as other projects
concerning Biotechnology nd Medical Devices.
Karolinska Innovations AB share the profits obtained through commercialization
of KIABs IP with the respective researchers. KIAB's own profits
are reinvested into commercializing new innovations.

Tripep
Tripep's business mission is to develop and commercialize pharmaceuticals
based primarily on the company's patented technologies.
The project that has developed the furthest is GPG®, a potential
new inhibitory agent for HIV. GPG attacks the virus through a new
mechanism of action, called protein polymerization inhibition (PPI).
Owing to this unique mechanism of action, the substance has proved
effective even in inhibiting growth of multiresistant strains of HIV.
With its PPI technology, Tripep can develop additional candidate drugs
for treating other chronic diseases, including substances that inhibit
the hepatitis C virus and the inflammation protein TNF-alpha.
Tripep second technology platform is called RAS, Re-directing Antibody
Specificity. RAS imply that and directs an antibody towards a new
target (or antigen). The RAS peptide, steers existing antibodies specifically
to the new predetermined target such as antigens involved in infectious
diseases, toxin related antigens or antigens specific for tumors or
auto immune diseases.
Tripep has also inlicensed another technology designated PVK - Parvo
Virus Kapsid technology. The applications are areas where the inhibition
of the growth of hematopoetic or endothelial cells are wanted and
Tripep has identified three primary areas of interest. Polycythemia
vera, Inhibition of angiogenesis in solid tumors and prior to bone
marrow transplantation.

Biolin Medical
Biolin Medical is a research and development based venture capital
company creating value growth in advanced technology companies within
biotechnology, medical technology and related areas. Biolin develops
innovations into commercial enterprises through operational owner
involvement based on unique competence and the support of a comprehensive
network.
As a supplement to its business concept, Biolin has developed a concept
that forms the basis of daily and long-term work with existing and
potential projects. The concept is the core of Biolin's value-creating
process and comprises intellectual capital such as competence, experience,
working methods and values as well as structural capital in the form
of processes, procedures, networks and relations. Biolin's views of
how new projects are identified, as well as how they are developed
and finally divested, are accommodated within the framework of the
concept.
The collective experience behind Biolin demonstrates the need for
driving development work as directly and simply as possible. Biolin's
organization and network includes access to crucial competence and
experienced individuals who give the portfolio companies concrete
opportunities to work their way through the required development phases
more quickly and at a reduced risk to achieve a commercial success.
Biolin's project portfolio currently consists of participation in
the companies AlcoDia, Biovator, BST Blood Saving Technologies, Boule
Diagnostics, Cavidi Tech, Integration Diagnostics, Q-Sense and Sinterkil.
Biolin is owned and financed by approximately 150 institutional and
private shareholders. |
